B&W Illustrations; These are the 3/4 brown morocco leather over pebblegrain brown cloth. 7.5 x 11". Pictured is Volume II has a water damaged back cover the cloth has lifted off the boards but the damage is restricted to the surface, no other waterstains anywhere. A few minor scrapes to leather. Overall the set is VG. The first edition in large 8vo. Shelf footprint 19", weight 47 pounds. In USIANA 578 Howes states in the 1960's, 70 years after publication, "If competently revised and brought more nearly to date , would be the most useful single work on the Western hemisphere, it's history, cartography and bibliography." This is a seminal work and engagingly written. Worthwhile refence work.
